The parent agency of National Physical Laboratory is Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. The headquarter of the laboratory is located at New Delhi. The laboratory was formed on January 4, 1947 by Government of India. Professor R. C. Budhani is the Director of the laboratory. The foundation stone of the laboratory was laid by Jawaharlal Nehru. Dr. K. S. Krishnan was the first Director of the laboratory. The Silver Jubilee Celebration of the laboratory was attended by the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The laboratory aims to strengthen the overall development of science and technology.

Job Profile:

National Physical Laboratory is making recruitment of eligible candidates for filling up the following positions of Senior Principal Scientist/Principal Scientist and Senior Scientist/Scientist. Candidates are required to ensure their eligibility for the desired position before applying for it.

Eligibility:

Candidates must have age within the prescribed age limit or in between the prescribed minimum age limit and maximum age limit set for the posts. Candidates belonging to reserved categories, may get relaxation of few years in the maximum age limit as per the rules of Government of India.

Educational Qualification:

Senior Principal Scientist/Principal Scientist: Ph.D. in concerned discipline with few years of post Ph.D. experience in the relevant field from a recognized institute or university of India.

Senior Scientist/Scientist: Ph.D. in concerned discipline with few years of post Ph.D. experience in the relevant field from a recognized institute or university of India.

No. of posts: Total 40 posts are available in total.

Senior Principal Scientist/Principal Scientist: Only 4 posts are available.
Senior Scientist/Scientist: Only 36 posts are available.

Pay Scale:

Senior Principal Scientist/Principal Scientist: Rs. 37400-67000 with a Grade Pay of Rs. 8700.
Senior Scientist/Scientist: Rs. 15600-39100 with a Grade Pay of Rs. 7600.

Application Fee:

General and OBC categories candidates are required to submit an application fee of Rs. 100 only. SC/ST candidates and regular employees of CSIR are exempted from the payment of this application fee. The demand draft of Rs. 100 is need to be drawn on any nationalized bank. The demand draft should be made in favour of Director, National Physical Laboratory payable at New Delhi. Candidates should write their name, category and post code applied for on the back side of the demand draft.

How to apply: Candidates should apply online at NPL website on or before 23 September 2011. Printout of the system generated application form must be sent alongwith the attested copies of the certificates in an envelope. The envelope must be superscribed as “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF _________________ (POST CODE: ________)”.
