There are many who are not able to have educational opportunities on regular basis. For them there is the option of distant learning education. Educational courses are provided in this mode by the Tamil Nadu Open University. The Open University was established following Indira Gandhi National Open University. The courses offered by the university include those at the diploma, graduate and postgraduate levels, in a variety of streams. UGC has recognized all these courses. A 3 year degree course in Computer Applications (B.C.A) is also offered by the University.

The only criterion for being eligible for the course is a pass in the 10+2 . Students who have attained the age of 18 years but have not yet passed the 12th can also apply for the course. They have to join a separate Bachelor Preparatory Programme.

Every year the University holds the term end examination for B.C.A. the duration of the exam is 3 hours and it carries a total of 75 marks. There are two sections in the question paper. Section A consists of 7 questions with a choice to answer any 5. Each question is of 5 marks. Section B also consists of 7 questions with the same choice. Each question in this section carries 10 marks.
