Based on the lines of IGNOU, the Tamil Nadu Open University was established to provide distant learning educational courses for the people who cannot pursue any educational courses on regular basis. The University offers many courses at the graduate, postgraduate and even at diploma level in a number of streams. UGC has recognized the courses. A degree course in Commerce (B.Com) is also offered by the University. This course is of three years duration.

The students should be at least 10+2 passed from any recognized board. The candidates who have not passed +2 can also join the course, provided they must be of 18 years of age. These candidates have to join a Bachelor Preparatory Programme.

The pattern of the term end examination is given below.

The exam is of duration of three hours and carries a maximum of 75 marks. The paper is divided in two sections. Section A has five questions with a choice to answer three. Each question is of 5 marks. The total of this section is 5X3=15. Section B has seven questions with a choice to answer any four. Each question is of 15 marks. Thus this section has a total of 4X15=60 marks.
