The study of supportive structures of teeth, diseases and its condition is called as Periodontology. The subject deals with the structures and functions of teeth and lies under the dental courses of the Medical Studies. Aetiology of periodontal disease is also one of the important branches of the Dental course and question papers are challenging and to the point.

Paper Pattern

The Question paper of The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University Master of Dental Surgery in PERIODONTOLOGY- Biology of Periodontics and Aetiology of Periodontal Diseases is basically divided into three parts each with its own set of different questions. There are subjective, long answers as well as multiple choice questions. The first part usually contains the multiple choice question carrying 20 marks. The second part is the actual theory part that is of eighty marks and is given in the actual paper. Essay type questions carry 20 marks and 15 marks respectively. The third part consists of six short notes and is divided into 5 marks each.

The frequent questions ranges from the basic structures and components of the tooth and the diseases related with it. Questions related with Aetiology and Periodontics is also asked from. Common questions of the previous year’s question paper are also emphasized. Various questions from the anatomy and dentistry section are also brought out.

Maximum Marks and Time Allotted

The maximum marks that can be obtained from the question paper are eighty which is totally on the theory portion. Multiple choice questions carry 20 marks and altogether 100 marks can be obtained. The first section consists of 20 marks along with essay type answers each carrying 15 marks. Short answer type and notes carry five marks. Total time given for completion is three hours which is divided into twenty minutes for multiple choice and two hours forty minutes for theory portion.
