The development of Wind Power in India began in the year 1990 and has significantly developed as the biggest green industry with around 1 GW of Wind Power Capacity. Particularly, the development of this industry has been driven by states Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Gujarat.

The country has installed a capacity of around 13 GW of Wind Power, which is fifth largest among the world. Even though, India is one among the top producers of Wind energy, it is far behind the reach of China. In India, some of the top players are dominating this sector and the names of these companies are given below:

Some of the details regarding these top players in the wind power sector in India are given below:

Suzlon Energy:

Suzlon Energy is the biggest Wind Energy Company with a capacity of about 4-5 Gigawatts wind energy per year. The company has seen it profits and revenues on the growth recently and its subsidiary companies Re Power and Hansen Transmission are also acting as the big players in generation of wind energy in Europe.

RRB Energy:

RRB Energy has a long history and it is operating from the state of Tamil Nadu in India with a capacity of 300 MW and steps are being taken by the company to expand its capacity of 700 MW. It makes two models with power rating of 1.8 MW and 600 KW and one of the top companies Merill Lynch has invested in RRB Energy.

NEPC India:

NEPC is a Public Limited Company operating with the objective of promotion of Wind Energy in the country. The company has a multi-crore turnover from varied activities in the field of power generation from wind energy and production and marketing of Wind Turbine generator, which is a renewable energy device.

Auro Mira Energy:

Auro Mira Energy is more like a Green Utility company rather than a full-fledged Wind power generating company and the company is planning to produce wind turbines in the future. The company to develop itself in the area of green power, has attracted funds from IFC and Baring.

Regen Powertech:

Regen Powertech recently established a manufacturing unit for Wind energy with a capacity of 300 MW in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Over the past years, the company has managed to supply wind energy not only small farms, but to big wind farms as well. It has licensed technology form Vensys for manufacturing 1.5 MW of gearless wind turbines.

WinWind:

WinWind has actually originated in the country of Finland and they have recently established a plant with a capacity to manufacture 1000 MW of Wind power in the state of Tamil  Nadu. The company is also planning to manufacture 3 Mega Watt Turbines in India in addition to a plant of 500 MW capacity at Finland.

Pioneer Wincon:

Pioneer Wincon is joint venture between Wincon group and Pioneer Group and the company makes 250 KW turbines. They are in this field for the past 30 years and it is acting as the static player in the wind energy sector in India right from its inception.

Chiranjeevi Wind Energy:

This company is a small player in the wind power generation sector in India and they have sold a number of turbines to small companies in the southern part of the country.

Lietnar Shriram Limited:

The company is joint venture between the Leitnar of Italy and Shriram Group of India and they have produced gearless turbines with a capacity of 1.5 MW and has sold to many small suppliers in the state of Maharashtra.

Apart from these companies, Kenersys is also a big player in the wind power generation sector in India.
