UPSC Mains Persian Paper I Papers


UPSC conducts its highly prestigious examination 2 times in a calendar year. Civil Services are the most respectful job in country and through this examination; IAS & IPS are reputed as gazetted officers. Persian is an optional paper to choose in the mains examination. Optional languages which are given in the paper are from the 8th Schedule to the constitution.

Qualification for appearing in this exam:

Only citizen of India can apply for the examination; education qualification required in this exam is graduation from a recognised University or institution. Candidates who are waiting for their final results to come can also apply but they have to produce their passing certificate in time of final selection. For General candidates, age limitations are 21-30 years and for SC/ST candidates, there is provision of relaxation according to UPSC norms.

Scoring and Negative Marking:

Long answer type questions are asked and hence there is no question of negative marking for wrong answer. Scores fluctuate according to the content of answers and these questions are divided into 2-4 sub-questions.

Mode of Exam:

Paper contains questions of conventional type and these are answered in answer sheet as regular examination.


All questions asked are of descriptive type and subjective.

Paper Pattern:

There are 8 questions asked in the Persian Paper I and these are of descriptive type mostly. Questions are asked of 2 sections and 1st question from each section is compulsory to be solved. Rest 3 are to be chosen from remaining 6 questions.


Paper contains 300 marks in it and each question carries 60 marks.


Time allotted to the paper is 3 hours only.
