Actuarial Science deals with the application of statistical and mathematical techniques in order to calculate the risk involved in finance and insurance sectors. The commerce students are highly benefited with this field, as there are many job openings for them in this sector. The candidates, to become an Actuary should have high proficiency in Mathematics. For applying for the PG Courses in Actuarial Science, one should have secured at least 85% in the Mathematics / Statistics subjects in the 10+2 level or equivalent. In addition, the candidate should possess either a graduation or post graduation in any Mathematics with a minimum of 55%. Otherwise, the aspirants should have completed the CA/ CS/ CWA/ MBA (Finance)/ PGDBA courses.

Those who have completed the Post graduation course in Actuarial Science can seek for jobs in banking sector, insurance sector, heath care, etc. Really, these actuaries are completely involved in decision-making and the overall management of insurance companies. They are among the highly paid professionals throughout the world. Even being a trainee, the actuary may receive a minimum pay of Rs. 50000 within India. The actuaries, if they have the required caliber can expect up to salaries around 18 lakhs and more. They have more scope in the countries abroad, since there are many insurance companies and well-developed banking sector out of India. The actuaries get salaries around $ 70000 / annum in UK and USA

    i don’t have 85% in 12 but i m statistic graduate with 80%, should i apply for pg actuarial science courses. which are the institutes/colleges offering pg in actuarial science in maharashtra? what is the eligibility criteria? am i able to pursue a career in actuarial science?
