The branch of civil engineering involves the knowledge of the formation of the various building structures and the load they can withstand or the varied purposes they might serve over the time. It thus involves the subject of disaster management. Since these structures involve a huge amount of investment and are expected to be able to withstand the wear and tears of time, they need to be sturdy.  In this span of time the various natural forces too will have an impact and it is thus very necessary for a civil engineer to be able to understand them. And in the modern era this is done by the use of the geospatial techniques.

The Gujarat technological University conducts the exams for the Civil Engineering students every semester. The paper of disaster assessment using the geospatial techniques is very exhaustive and the candidates taking the exam should have a sound knowledge of the subject.

Format

Altogether 5 questions are there and all of them have internal choices. The candidates should write the answers in detail to score well.

Marking

All the questions have two parts and each of them carry 7 marks. Thus each question in total carries 14 marks, which makes the sum total marks for this paper 70.

Time Allotted

Generally timing is 2 and half hours.

The questions in the question paper involve several questions based on the topics of the various geospatial instruments that are used in the process like the GIS and GPS system etc. Then there are questions based on the various principles on which the functioning of these instruments are based on and the interpretation of the data obtained by them. Like the factors affecting the microwave instruments and the process of the radar remote sensing.
