i want to know that i am 12th passed from commerce in 2006 its going to be a three year and i want to apply because its my dream to work in merchant nevy
so plz help me ans that how would i apply ?

you can join merchant navy as a deck cadet only if you have'nt crossed the age limit of 21years.

But i think you have crossed the age limit for it.

Bt still there is a chance if you are a sc/st candidate.

Please do not divert and go in commerse line as this line is also very good line and good for earning good money too.

yes U can Join merchant navy with commerce stream, in 12th standard but as ratings bcoz for ratings, qualifications is 10th standard with English and maths compulsory after that you complete your sea experience and go for exams for an Officer rank.
but please check if you are eligible by your age............

still you can go for diploma in private and do a course in marine and apply for merchant navy..........

It is not possible i think because it requires you to have physics, chemistry and mathematics as electives in your 10+2.

yes you can join merchant navy as an commerce student but as an deck cadet. you can have the sea certificate and apply for any of the company you wish to join.

now you are doing graduation,then after graduation you can apply for merchant navy.

you better pursue some maritime logistics/ shipping logistics/sea trade management course after your graduation, though they cant guarantee you a travel in ship everytime still, you will have your chances to enjoy the high seas.

yes you can join the merchant navy as an logistic officer but after completing your graduation with 60% in aggregate..............

so just complete your graduation and then go for it........

The two major departments in Merchant Navy are Navigation and engineering department.
To join the navigation department of Merchant Navy as Deck cadet, one must have completed +2 with physics, chemistry and maths and to join the engineering department, one must have a degree in engineering.

But apart from these two departments, there is also job opportunity for candidates belonging to commerce background.Similar to any other industry, a ship also requires someone to handle money on board. An indivudaul, with a graduate degree and fair knowledge of accountancy and computer, can join Merchant Navy as Purser/Ship clerk.A Purser is responsible for general administration and all money-related needs on board.

there are direct entry of layman,s jobs in army after 10th.
you could adjust the following positions ,if you get 55% in 10th in merchant navy:
a. cammandent helper
b.flight officer
c. pilot surveyor
d. ground on-duty officer

How to get in Merchant NAvy after +2
These days Merchant Navy has become a craze among the students and also as a lucaretive and adventerous career option attracking more and more talent.

For getting into Deck or Navigating department one has to start there career from post of "Deck Cadet" after that one will moves toward Third Officer which ultimately leads to Captain/Master in long time of 8-10 years work experiance.

Qualification Required: One has to persue 3 years B.sc (Nautical science) alongwith 12 months of onship training. Or these days this B.sc degre gets split into parts by maximum institutes such that- 1 year Diploma in Nautical science, 1 1/2 years Onboard ship training and 6 months pre-sea training.



Eligibility: 12th (PCM) with at least 60% aggregate. However, few Institutes also accept students with 55% aggregate. For Ex- Trident college of marine technology, West Bengal.

Age Limit: 20 years for those who has +2, while its 22-23 years for B.sc Dgree holder.

For Getting into Engine Department, one has to start career from the post of "Fifth or Junior Engineer" which ultimately lead to Chief Engineer.

Qualification Required: A degree in Marine or Mechanical or electrical Engineering from a recognised Institute. MArine engineering holder will get in directly while Mechanical and Elecrical has to undergone 10 months Pre-Sea Training in MArine engineering, which is either offered by recruiting company or candidate has to born itself.


Eligibility: Nothing different from what is required to be an Engineer.

Age Limit: 25 years

For Rating Department

For Deck Rating: Any bachelor degree(as it is prefered) with 1 year or 6 months pre-sea training.

Age Limit: 21 and 23 years.

Engine Rating: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering alongwith 12 or 6 months pre-sea training.

Age Limit: 21 years.

Catering Rating: Any background will do. However, background in hotel management with experience in the hospitality business will be a great help.
In this field you need to upgrade your skills every nine months or so, through proficiency development or skill development courses in the maritime academies and pass examinations conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS). This will be your key to new contracts.

Age Limit: 25 years for MBA holders.

NOTE: 1) few private institutes also except candidate with 50% aggregate, because they have tied up with other university (EX- IGNOU) for providing degree. But student must be cautious of any fraud.

2) One can also enter in Deck Cadet, just by having 12 months pre-sea training but prospects are not so promissing. So better to enter after graduation.

3) Since Indian Shipping industry has only 30% grip over the market rest of Indian shipping market has been captured by Foreing companies. As a result chances of Internation aspects is greater.

to join in Merchant Navy, you have to appear an qualify UPSC exam.

through UPSC exam, you can join in Merchant Navy.

the criteria to attain in the UPSC exam is

minimum graduation in qualification with 55% marks.

age limit 21-29 years.

commerce students can join merchant navy as GPR (Genral purpose Rating) for which the minimum educational qualification is 10th passout with EMS. Students can join as Deck Cadet if they are 12th passout with minimum 55% in PCM.
