Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry was established in the year 1985 and it is located in the Solan district in the state of HP. The university holds the pride of being the first of its kind in the whole of Asia established with the responsibility of conducting extension, research and education in the fields of forestry and horticulture. The university is located at the Solan-Rajgarh Road in Nauni and the campus lies at about 15 km from the town of Solan. The university was given its name in honor of the first chief minister of the state of Himachal Pradesh. The university was inaugurated on the 30th of April 1988 by the late Prime Minister of India, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi. A school specialized in the study of apples known as Apple School is functioning under the university in addition to the two colleges coming under its jurisdiction. The names of the two colleges are as follows:

• College of Forestry

• College of Horticulture

The above-mentioned two colleges coming under Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry are divided into 14 departments for offering education to the students. A management department is also functioning under the university to offer three basic courses like HR, Finance and marketing for students interested in agri-business. The university is offering UG, PG and doctoral courses in forestry, horticulture and related fields of education. The university has attained several milestones in the education, research and extension activities thereby offering a sustainable portion for the development of forestry and horticulture in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The colleges coming under the university are strictly following the academic regulations formed and amended by the university from time to time and these guidelines are offered after taking into consideration the norms prescribed by the Indian Council of Agriculture Research and State Government.
