Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry has its origin as the Himachal Agricultural College & Research Institute that came into existence in the year 1962 with affiliation from Punjab University located in Chandigarh. Later in the year 1965 the college was offered with the status of PG College with the introduction of Master of Science in agriculture course with specialization in some essential subjects.

Then, in the year 1970 when the Himachal Pradesh University was established the college was converted as the Agricultural Complex and later into horticulture complex as well of the HP University in the year 1976. Then, in the year 1985, the agricultural and horticulture complex were brought under one name Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry.

The university is offering education through its constituent colleges in the faculties of forestry and horticulture and the list of courses offered through these constituent colleges is given below:
