Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, also called as Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, came into existence in the year 1987 on the 20th of January after getting divided from Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya or Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University located at Jabalpur. The university is offering agricultural education through six of its constituent colleges and thirteen affiliated colleges. Totally 18 departments are functioning under the university like land and water management departments, animal sciences, medicinal and aromatic plants, microbiology, agricultural meteorology, fisheries, statistics, mathematics and computer science, biotechnology, forestry, plant physiology, extension education & home science, etc…Indira Gandhi Agricultural University is offering education under four main faculties namely agricultural engineering, veterinary sciences & animal husbandry, dairy technology and agriculture.
