Psychology is one of the optional subjects that the candidates of KPSC exams can choose from the list of twelve papers. There are two papers that a candidate has to answer under psychology. The candidates need to choose two optional papers. The compulsory papers are General English, General knowledge and mathematics.

About the paper and paper pattern

The paper is a part of a competitive exam for selecting eligible candidates to various posts within KPSC. The paper is printed in both English and Kannada to facilitate readability. The paper is marked out of 300 and to selected, the candidates need to secure a minimum of 30%. The candidates can answer the paper only in the language printed in their admit card. The paper is purely descriptive and there are no objective questions in the paper. The candidates are allotted three hours for completing the question paper. They will not be allotted any reading time since the examination is competitive.

The paper is divided into four sections A, B, C and D respectively. Out of the four sections, the first four sections are compulsory. The candidates need to answer only three questions from section D. Sections A, B and C consists of four questions, B consists of 10 questions, C consists of six questions and D consists of four questions.

The questions in section A needs to be answered in 50 words, that in B need to be done in 100, C needs to be done in 150 and D needs to be done in 300 words.

Marking scheme

Section A is for 20 marks. Section B consists of ten questions of 10 marks and contributes 100 marks. Section C is for 90 marks and D too is for 90 marks.
