Government Colleges for Diploma in Garment Technology
Diploma in Garment Technology is a three-year course, which is being offered by a few colleges in India. This course teaches the students different ideas pertaining to designing of garments, fabrication, techniques pertaining to garment designing, usage of computers in garment designing, etc…
As mentioned earlier, this course is offered only by a few colleges in India and the names of government colleges offering this course in India are given below:
• Government Institute of Garment Technology, Amritsar
• Dr. Dharmambal Government Polytechnic for Women, Chennai
Eligibility requirement for admission:
For seeking admission to the Diploma in Garment Technology offered by the above-mentioned institutions, candidates must have completed their Class X examination with good percentage of marks. In this three-year course, candidates who have completed their higher secondary examination in any stream can directly get admission to the second year.
Intake Capacity:
As far as the above-mentioned two colleges are concerned, Government Institute of Garment Technology is allowed to admit 30 students per year for this course, while Dr. Dharmambal Government Polytechnic for Women is approved with an intake capacity of 60 students per year.
Admission Procedure:
Admission of students is done by the institute of Garment Technology based on the merit secured by them in the class 10 examination and Joint Entrance Test conducted by the State Board of Technical Education located in the state of Punjab. As far as the other government polytechnic college is concerned, admission is done purely on the basis of merit secured by the students in the qualifying examination.
Higher studies after Diploma in Garment Technology:
After successful completion of Diploma in Garment Technology course, candidates can take up Bachelor of Engineering/Technology course in any disciplines like information technology, computer science, electronics, production, mechanical, apparel and textile engineering. Since they have completed their Diploma in Garment Technology, they can get admission directly to the second year of the Bachelor’s degree course and they can further go for PG courses in any of these disciplines.
Future job prospects of Diploma holders in Garment Technology:
Candidates, who have completed their Diploma course in Garment Technology, can initially join as trainee in big garment manufacturing firms and they can slowly acquire higher positions based on their performance. When they join as trainees, they can learn a lot of techniques since they are gaining practical knowledge, it will be of great use for their future job prospects. Even, candidates after gaining some years of experience can become entrepreneurs by starting their own garment-designing firm.
