Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies came into existence in the year 2008 and the university was established by the Government of Andhra Pradesh through an Act of the Legislature as a full-fledged university. The university has three-residential campuses and when it was established it was opened with the plan of initially admitting about 1% of the rural students. In the year 2008, the first batch of nearly 6500 class 10 pass-outs were admitted for the integrated six-year course offered by the university in different subjects. As mentioned earlier, the university has three campuses for offering education each at RK Valley, Nuzvid and Basar in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies offer education through different departments like physics, mechanical engineering, mathematics, metallurgical & materials engineering, humanities, English, electronics & communication engineering, electrical engineering, computer science engineering, civil engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering and bio-sciences. The courses offered by the university includes six-year integrated course after class 10 examination and this course leads to B. Tech degree. The first part of this course includes two-year pre-university course, followed by four-year B. Tech degree course. The pre-university course offered by the university under the six-year integrated course includes subjects like information technology, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, Telugu and English. This pre-university course offers qualitative plus-two education with a view to lay stronger foundation for the professional and technical courses, which will be taken up by the students after completion of the two-year pre-university course under the six-year integrated course.

The university offers UG courses only for students who have completed their pre-university course from the same university (i.e.), the students are admitted to six-year integrated course after completion of their class X examination. Candidates are selected based on the marks secured by them in the class X examination and shortlisted candidates will be called for counseling.
