JIPMER, whose full name is Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research was established by the French Imperial Government in the year 1823. When the institution was established, its name was Ecole De Medicine and later in the year 1956, the institution was taken over by the Government of India and it was given its present name in the year 1964.

Pay Scale: Candidates appointed for the position of Assistant Professor, will come under the pay brand of Rs.15600-39100 + GP 8000/- (Academic Grade Pay) with a minimum of Rs.30,000/- + NPA.

Eligibility requirements:

Educational qualification: Candidates must possess medical qualification that is included in Schedule I or II or Part II of the third schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act 1956. A postgraduate qualification (i.e.) MS or MD or a recognized qualification equivalent to that or DM in respective discipline or subject for medical super-specialties and M. Ch in respective subject or discipline for surgical super-specialty or any other equivalent qualification.

Experience: candidates must possess 10 years research or teaching experience in a recognized institution in the subject of specialty after getting the qualifying degree of MD or MS or any other equivalent qualification.

Age: The upper age limit to apply for the position of professor is 50 years on the closing date of application.

Mode of selection:

The institute will conduct interview for selection of candidates for the position of professor and the date of interview will be intimated to the short-listed candidates later.

Application fee:

Cost of Application of Rs.500 for general and OBC candidates and Rs.250 for SC/ST candidates should be paid in the form of DD drawn in favor of the Accounts Officer, JIPMER payable at SBI, JIPMER Branch, Pondicherry. PH candidates need not pay any application fee.
