Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences shortly called as ARIED came into existence in the year 1954 on the 20th of April and it is working under the Department of Science & Technology of Government of India. The institution is engaged in research activities in the fields like atmospheric sciences, astrophysics and astronomy. The institute is engaged in research in several sub-fields under these main fields like solar system, ISM, Dust, Polarization, instrumentation for astronomy, steller activity, binary stars, asterpseismology, galactic and extra-galactic astronomy.

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for direct recruitment by the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences for the posts of Scientist C and Scientific Assistant and the details regarding the notifications issued by the ARIED for these positions are given below:

Name of the Vacancies: Scientist C, Scientific Assistant

Number of Vacancies: Total number of vacancies is 21, divided among the two positions as follows:

• Scientist C – 17 (UR-02, SC-05, ST-03 and OBC-07)

• Scientific Assistant – 04 (UR-01, SC-01, ST-01 and OBC-01)

Eligibility requirements:

Educational qualification:

Scientist C: Candidates must have completed their M. Sc in astrophysics/physics and Ph. D with consistent good academic records and must have secured not less than 55% of marks with at least one year post doctoral research experience and they should have made research contribution in solar (astrophysics and astronomy) or extragalactic or galactic fields. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in instrumentation or observation.

Scientific Assistant – Candidates must have completed their B. Sc in physics or equivalent with not less than 55% of marks. Preference will be given to candidates with at least one year experience in general instrumentation/opto-electonic instrumentation or public outreach in a research organization.

Age: The upper age limit to apply for the position of Scientist C is 40 years and for the position of Scientific Assistant is 30 years as on the 30th of September 2011.
