SDM College, Ujire came into existence in the year 1966 and over these years of its existence, the college has created an indelible mark for educational excellence in offering quality education in rural location. The college has earned recognition from the University Grants Commission as a college with the Potential for Excellence in the year 2004 and F.J.E.I Best College Award in the year 2005. In addition, the college earned autonomous status from the Mangalore University in the year 2007 and reaccredited with A Grade status from the NAAC in the year 2010. The campus of the college has four research centres of which three are affiliated to the Mangalore University and one is affiliated to the Hampi Kannada University.
