How to study M.Sc (CS-FOSS) through distance mode?

Candidates who are interested to pursue post graduation in Computer Science/IT through distance mode can opt for M.Sc (CS-FOSS) program. This online program is conducted by Anna University for B.E, B.Tech, B.C.A and B.Sc graduates. Interested aspirants can forward their online or offline application during the months of January and July every year.

Admission procedure

Educational qualification specified for getting admission to M.Sc (CS-FOSS) online program are

  • B.E/B.Tech degree in any discipline from an AICTE approved institution

OR

  • Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) degree from any recognized institution.

OR

  • B.Sc degree in any science or mathematics stream with at least one paper in Mathematics

Apart from educational requirements, aspirants should have certain computing and internet resource requirements like Desktop or Laptop with Pentium 4 @ 500MHz

  • 64MB video memory, Speakers and Mike/headphones, 300GB Hard Disk
  • 16 bit Sound Card, 512 MB RAM, Web camera, Linux (version 15 or similar) OS
  • PDF reader like Adobe, Firefox or Netscape Browser, Open Office Suite or any other suitable FOSS SW packages and Internet connection with 1 Mbps or more speed.

Admission to this programs is done two times in a year during the months of January and July. Interested aspirants can forward their application once the notification is out. Three modes are there for submitting the applications, which are

  • Fill the forms online and click the submit button to finish the application process
  • Download the form to save in the desktop or memory. Then fill it offline to submit online
  • Take the print out of the form and send the duly-filled in forms to Centre of Distance Education, Anna University through post.

Admission to this online program will be based on the marks obtained during the qualifying examination.

Fee structure of M.Sc (CS-FOSS) online program

Fees to be paid at the time of admission:-

  • Candidates having Bachelor’s degree – Rs. 29,500/- from any University in Tamil Nadu
  • Candidates having Bachelor’s degree – Rs. 30,000/- from any University outside Tamil Nadu

Fees to be paid in each semester (2nd semester to final semester):-

  • For all students – Rs. 25,000/-

Structure of M.Sc (CS-FOSS) online program

Candidates are required to complete 16-18 courses including theory sessions and laboratory work within two years. These two years will be divided into four semesters. Online sessions will be conducted twice in a week for each course. There will be 25-30 online sessions with duration of 60-90 minutes. Minimum 50% attendance is required for these sessions. Practical sessions can be done along with the theory sessions under the guidance of course instructor.

Candidates can interact with their teacher in real time through audio, chat sessions, e-mails and conferencing. Sessional Marks will be calculated according to the assignments, tests and quizzes conducted in online mode. Project work is also there during the last semester. Physical presence is necessary for project presentation. It will be conducted within the campus of Anna University, Chennai.

    sir i am s das working as an asst. teacher in mathematics ina govt aided high school.appointed at the post p.g mathematics…i completed my p.g degree on 2007 from nbu regular mode.and i oblained a marks which was less than 55%.now i cant appear NET/SLET exam now…that is why i want to do an another m.sc in same subject..will it be possible and legal to me for my present situation??
