National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) is the most prominent pharmacy institute in India which offers various post graduate level pharmacy programmes. Admission to the courses offered by this institute is conducted based on the scores obtained in the national level entrance exam known as NIPER JEE. Candidates can expect questions which measure their academic knowledge, aptitude, general awareness and language skills.

Overview of NIPER JEE

There will be a total of 200 questions and the maximum time duration allowed is two hours. From this, it is obvious that time management is crucial to score good marks. Questions will be in multiple choice objective type formats.  Each question carries one mark. Moreover, there will be negative marking for every wrong answer. Hence is advisable to drop the question for which you are not sure about the answer. Candidates can expect questions from the subjects such as Chemistry, Pharmacology, Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical analysis. The questions will be from the syllabus of B.Pharm and M.Sc.

In addition to this, around 10 to 15 questions related to GK, General English will be asked. Medium of instruction for the test is English.

Preparation Tips for NIPER JEE

The candidate should be more careful and should put more effort while preparing for this exam. There is no official syllabus prescribed by NIPER for the examination.

Candidates are advised to be thorough in organic chemistry, particularly IUPAC names, stereo chemistry and writing the structures and interpretation of spectra. Remember to cover all important reactions.  Apart from this, there will be questions from topics studies in B.Pharm. It is preferable to practice questions from organic chemistry as it might require more time. Preparation techniques involve preparation for competition tests with the help of good reference books and solving model questions papers.

Knowledge of basic chemistry and bio-chemistry is a must to answer the questions. A candidate needs to be updated with developments in drug molecules as well as the names of the scientists who have made some important discoveries or inventions. Apart from these, candidates are required to be thorough in simple mathematics, logical questions and questions based on English language. This will help to score more marks.

Candidates can prepare for the exam with the help of certain good reference books. Some of the books related to this exam that can be referred are mentioned below.

  • Comprehensive Review of Pharmacy by Leon Shargel
  • Books on Pharmacology by Rang and Dale
  • Books on Pharmaceutical analysis by YR Sharma, Chatwal

Apart from these, candidates can refer to the text books of  B.Pharm course.
