BA LLB Vs LLB - Which course is better?

Advertisements

Even though BA LLB and LLB are programs in law, the study areas as well as the scope of these programs have huge differences from one other. The Bar Council of India is the official body that gives approval for both these courses. While BA LLB is an integrated program that has duration of 5 years that includes Arts subjects together with its Law curriculum, LLB is a graduate level program that is concerned with the examination as well as study of the legal system, its many laws and the amendments of the constitution.

BA LLB

The BA LLB course is offered by the majority of law universities across the globe. Students who have finished their class 12 from any stream can join this course. Only if students finish their studies from a recognized university will they become a certified lawyer. The curriculum of the BA LLB Course includes both practical as well as theory sessions. On top of this, they will also have to attend the court at times. The best thing about this course is that they will be getting a dual degree in Arts and Law, that too within 5 years. On the conclusion of their studies, students can either go for advanced studies or start their practice under a senior advocate. They can also join as advisers with firms.

LLB

LLB is a graduate level program in Law. Those who have finished their class 10+2 are eligible to pursue this program. The duration of this course is 5 years. Besides this, those who have completed their graduation in any stream are eligible to apply for this program too. Once they complete their studies, they can get jobs with firms of both the government and private sectors. They can get employed as lawyers, legal advisors or even as public prosecutors. Professionals can also work in legal consultancy firms. The NGO and other international agencies like ILO and UNO also take in professionals of this field.

Key differentiators between BA LLB and LLB

  • While LLB is Bachelor of Laws course, BA LLB is an integrated course in Arts and Law.
  • Whilst LLB solely focuses on the study of the law and its other pertaining subjects, BA LLB includes the study of Arts subjects together with the syllabus of Law.
  • Students who study Bachelor of Laws will only get a single degree whereas those who have taken the integrated BA LLB program will receive a dual degree.

Which course is better?

Both these courses help the students to get a more intimate idea about the legal system of our country. One cannot say which course is better because the selection of a course will be in accordance with the future career plan as well as the strengths of the students. If one would like to focus only on law, it will be better to take the LLB program, but one who wishes to take on both arts and Law together can find the integrated BA LLB more useful.
