Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) in Chemical Engineering is an undergraduate programme which mainly deals with the various principles of chemistry and engineering. This stream of engineering acts as a bridge between the scientific phenomenon and manufacturing techniques. Almost the Universities provide a provision to the diploma holders to get into the 2nd year of engineering through the lateral entry scheme.

Eligibility for B.E. in Chemical Engineering Lateral Entry in Thapar University

The candidates who have passed their diploma of minimum 3 years duration after matriculation or 2 years duration after 10+2 in chemical engineering or allied fields from a Polytechnic College / Institute affiliated with State Board of Technical Education or from a recognized University are eligible. The candidates should also possess a minimum aggregate of 60% marks (55% in case of SC / ST candidates) or equivalent grade point in diploma and must have qualified LEET-TU with at least 20% marks in aggregate (15% for SC/ST candidates). In addition to these, the applicant should be an Indian citizen with good moral character.

Reservation for Lateral Entry in Thapar University

There are a total of 7 seats allotted for the lateral entry admission in Chemical Engineering stream in the Thapar University. Out of this, 25% seats will be made available to the SC / ST candidates. In short, 2 seats will be reserved for them and the remaining 5 seats for the General category candidates.

Applying for B.E. in Chemical Engineering Lateral Entry in Thapar University

The admittance to the B.E. in Chemical Engineering Lateral Entry in Thapar University will be on the basis of the Lateral Entry Engineering Test which is conducted by the University (LEET-TU). The candidates have to apply for the exam through the official website http://www.thapar.edu/. For the exam, there will be 2 sections comprising of general and professional questions respectively. In total, 150 questions will be there which have to be answered within 180 minutes. Paper-I will have 60 questions from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English. Paper-II shall contain 90 questions from core topics in chemical engineering.

There are many advantages for the aspirants who choose B.E after the diploma course. First of all, they don’t need to attend the first year of engineering and hence able to complete B.E within 3 years. Also they find the lab experiments much easier than the others since in diploma they would have got exposed to the same. Furthermore during the campus recruitments, the diploma holders will get more preference in some of the companies as they have an additional qualification.
