Biotechnology is a field of functional biology which primarily deals with the living organisms and biological processes in various supplementary fields requiring bio products. B.E in Biotechnology is a 4 year professional programme which helps equips the students with the biotechnological concepts. More or less, almost all the Universities in the country offer a provision to the diploma holders to get into the 2nd year of engineering through the lateral entry system.

Eligibility for B.E. in Biotechnology Lateral Entry in Thapar University

The aspirants those who have completed their 3 years diploma course after matriculation or 2 years diploma after 10+2 in Biotechnology or related fields from an Institution affiliated with State Board of Technical Education or from a recognized University are eligible. They should have scored at least 60% marks (55% for SC / ST candidates) or equivalent in diploma.  Furthermore, the candidates must also have qualified LEET-TU with minimum 20% marks in aggregate (15% for SC/ST candidates). Besides to the above mentioned eligibility criteria, the candidates should be an Indian citizen with a good moral background.

There are a total of 4 seats allotted for the lateral entry admission in Biotechnology stream in the Thapar University. Out of this, 25% seats will be made available to the SC / ST candidates, i.e., 3 seats for the general category and 1 seat for the SC / ST candidates.

The admission to the B.E. in Biotechnology Lateral Entry in Thapar University will be on the basis of performance in the LEET conducted by the Thapar University. This exam will be conducted by the University every year and for which the aspirants can apply through the official website http://www.thapar.edu/. The exam will be having 2 sections covering questions of general and professional type. Altogether, there will be 150 questions which the candidates need to answer in 180 minutes.
