The questions are simple that test the knowledge of the candidates taking the exam in the field of application of the fundamental laws of mechanics.

The Biju Patnaik University of technology-B.Tech First Semester Exam, Mechanics Papers are prepared to test the students enrolled in the various engineering courses of the university based on their knowledge of the fundamentals of mechanics taught in their first year of the four year programme. As it is common to all branches, the subject consists of the fundamental laws of mechanics and their application.

Format

The Mechanics paper consists of long questions that incorporate both the descriptive and the numerical questions. The first question is compulsory for the candidate to answer while he has a choice to choose any five of the remaining seven questions.

Marking

The total marks given for the question paper is 70. The first question contains ten parts of two marks each while all the rest of the questions carry 10 marks which are accordingly divided.

Time Allotted

A total time given for answering the question paper is 3 hours which needs to be well utilized.

Paper pattern

The paper contains eight questions in all. The first question has many small answer type questions based on the fundamental aspects of mechanics. The rest of the question consists of a descriptive and a numerical based on the same principle usually.

The questions in the question paper usually involve testing the skills of the candidate on a particular topic followed by a numerical on the same concept. The calculation of force and its magnitude, calculation of truss, bending moment etc are the most common topics from which the questions are asked.
