Career In Ayurveda
Ayurveda essentially means knowledge of life and it is one of the oldest forms of treatment methodology which was invented in india. Ayurveda has however lost its charm because of the hectic life style of people and its allopathy that suits them better. But considering the harmful effects that allopathy can cause more and more people are enlightened by Ayurveda and it’s not that only Indians believe in Ayurveda but people abroad or the so called western countries are also accepting the power of Ayurveda.
Ayurveda stresses on the fact that human body is a part of nature and therefore it becomes necessary to maintain equilibrium and harmony with the nature to keep yourself healthy and live a better life. Ayurveda believes that nature has the remedies to all the ill effects that human body is most prone to. Ayurvedic medicines are prepared from natural herbs, fruits, vegetable and minerals so there is no side effect at all and this fact is also gaining international acceptance. But at the same time Ayurvedic treatment is relatively slow and requires much more time than its allopathic counterpart.
Since more and more people are reverting back to the Ayurvedic method of treatment, moreover people from abroad are also coming for ayurvedic treatment; this has considerably increased the demand for the Ayurveda experts or the Ayurvedic doctors.
Eligibility:
In order to apply for B.A.M.S or Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery, one must have studied physics, chemistry, biology and preferable Sanskrit at the class 12th level. Getting B.A.M.S degree is not the easiest task in the world while most of the other degrees are only of 4 years duration but the course duration of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery is 5 ½ years.
Job Prospects:
Since ayurveda is increasingly gaining importance not only in the domestic but also in the international scenario so more and more pharmaceutical companies are employing ayurveda experts for the new researches in ayurvedic medicines. An ayurveda expert can be absorbed by various hospitals and colleges; also he can also start his private clinic.
Salary:
The initial salary packages may not be so alluring but once you are a professional in the field you can earn way beyond what you will be getting as a fresher. The basic government pay package is somewhere between Rs10, 000 to Rs. 20,000 but if you are employeed in private sector you can get much more but then you will not the perks and allowances offered by government.
