Jamia Millia Islamia was an educational institution that was established in 1920. The freedom fighter and Muslim theologian, Maulana Mehmud Hasan, laid the foundation stone for this institute. The institute became a Central University in 1988 under an act of the Indian Parliament. The institute was initially established at Aligarh, and later was shifted to New Delhi. The University offers various UG and PG level courses and programmes in various disciplines such as education, Humanities & Languages, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Law, etc. The University also offers various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of Information Technology. The University has a number of learning and research centres such as Mass Communication Research Centre (MCRC) and Academy of Third World Studies (ATWS).
