Details about B.Ed admission


Graduates having keen desire to teach in schools can join B.Ed course offered by various Universities in India. Full time B.Ed course is open to fresh graduates while Part time B.Ed course is only for graduates with experience. Interested candidates can forward their application through online or offline as specified by the concerned institute. Admission will be given on the basis of entrance test and other academic achievements.

Eligibility criteria

Part time B.Ed

Candidates who are applying for Part time B.Ed course should have Bachelor degree in any of the following stream with minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates).

  • Arts
  • Commerce
  • Engineering
  • Forestry
  • Medicine
  • Music and Fine Arts
  • Science
  • Social Sciences
  • Veterinary Science

The concerned undergraduate degree should be obtained from a University approved by University Grants Commission (UGC).

They should  be working as a teacher on temporary or permanent basis while applying for B.Ed admission. Certain Universities like Indira Gandhi National Open University ask for a minimum of two year teaching experience for the applicants.

Full time B.Ed

To apply for full time B.Ed course, one should possess any undergraduate or postgraduate degree from any University Grants Commission (UGC) approved University. They should complete the concerned degree with minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates).

Application procedure

The first step required for getting B.Ed admission is to forward application form to the University offering B.Ed course. Aspirants can procure the application form from University office or download it from the University website. It is also possible to submit the form online. They can pay the application fee in cash or through the demand draft taken in the name of the concerned University or authority in the University

They should fill the form in block letters and should be vigilant while entering the subjects opted for B.Ed programme. All the details should be entered with utmost care so as to avoid mistakes. Candidates are recommended to read prospectus thoroughly before filling each column in the form. Fee details should be entered correctly without any mistake. It is necessary to affix recent colour photograph in the space specified on the form apart from adding signature. Scanned image of photograph and signature should be uploaded in the case of online applications. Duly filled forms should be sent to the address mentioned in the prospectus within the stipulated date.

Selection procedure

After receiving the application form, the concerned authority will start the selection procedure for the intake of eligible candidates. Selection procedure will differ according to the institutes which offer B.Ed course. Universities like Indira Gandhi National Open University conduct B.Ed Entrance Test for the applicants and prepare a merit list based on their scores. Counselling will be held according to the merit list and availability of seats. Admission will be given after conducting the counselling process for each candidate. But in the case of Universities like University of Jammu, admission will be given on the basis of their score in graduation.
