Petroleum is the most important lifeline of modern human civilization as it provides mobility over land, air and water it also supplies energy any power to various sectors of modern industries. It is used in automobiles, machines production of petroleum products, plastics petroleum derivatives and many more. These are hydrocarbons with various compositions of Carbon, Hydrogen and other elements and provide a high calorific value. Hence we need to be very careful in extraction of this product. So diploma holders are trained in petroleum engineering to employ them for practical assistance during the extraction and processing of petroleum.
Eligibility
The basic eligibility requirement for the diploma in petroleum engineering is that the candidate must pass class 12. An entrance exam is held for admission in the diploma course in petroleum engineering. The candidate must produce a Secondary School Leaving Certificate in time of admission.
Course Outlook
Diploma in petroleum engineering is a 3 year course offered in various polytechnic colleges of India. The syllabus is split into 6 semester held every November/ December and May/ June. In this course duration students are evaluated on the basis of practical examination as well as theoretical examination and marks are given on basis of Continuous Formative Assessment and End Semester Examination. A Diploma holder can further go opt for advanced diploma, bachelor degree or master degree in the field.
Job prospect
Diploma holders in petroleum engineering are employed in petroleum rigs, refineries, transportation companies and plastic and petroleum by product companies. They are paid well according to their skill and job experience. They are employed by many renowned private and government companies.
