Re: IAS Exam Details
The Civil Services Examination is conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) every year.
The examination has three stages i.e., (1) Civil Services Preliminary Examinations (CSP) - normally conducted during the second half of May. (2) Civil Services (Main) Examinations conducted during the month of October/November. Here, those who are selected in the preliminary examination only are eligible to appear. (3) Those who are selected in the main examination will be eligible to appear before the Interview Board at New Delhi. Preliminary Examination (CSP) CSP consists of two papers Which is common for all candidates from 2011 i.e., No optional paper is there in CSP form 2011.This is the first stage of Civil Services Examination. This is an Objective type examination consisting of Two Papers that is common to all candidates from 2011 having special emphasis on testing their “aptitude for civil services” as well as on “ethical and moral dimension of decision making”. Normally, there are about 3 lakh applications for the preliminary examination. From this, the UPSC selects 10 to 12 folds of vacancies for the main examinations. This is only for the selection and not to be taken into consideration in the main ranking. Subjects for Preliminary Examination: • As per the decision of Government of India, there shall be change in the syllabus and pattern of the Preliminary Examination from 2011 in the scheme of the Civil Services Examination. • The Preliminary Examination shall now comprise of two compulsory Papers of 200 marks each and of two hours duration each. Detailed below is the new syllabus and pattern of the Preliminary Examination, which is brought to the notice of the prospective candidates intending to appear at the Civil Services Examination (CSE) in 2011 onwards: Paper I - (200 marks) Duration: Two hours • Current events of national and international importance • History of India and Indian National Movement • Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic geography of India and the World. • Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc. • Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc. • General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization • General Science. Paper II- (200 marks) Duration: Two hours • Comprehension • Interpersonal skills including communication skills; • Logical reasoning and analytical ability • Decision making and problem solving • General mental ability • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. -Class X level) • English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level). • Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level (last item in the Syllabus of Paper-II) will be tested through passages from English language only without providing Hindi translation thereof in the question paper. • The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type. |

Re: IAS Exam Details
Dear aspirant,
IAS is the toughest exam being conducted in India. It is conducted by UPSC. It is your preparation level which will decide your rank in the exam. As Clear from the above analysis, about half of the candidates backed away right before the beginning. Also among the 1,67,035 taking the preliminary test. only about 1/4th were the real competition ( The remaining people attend the examination without much seriousness. The reason for a lethargic approach of those people are, they attend the exam due to their parents insistence or without proper preparation or as i said before, a wrong negative approach and expecting luck will favor them ) Furthermore, out of the 40000 real competitors, 10,283 cracked the preliminary test. i.e one out of every four goes through pre-exam(success rate of about 25%. So the success rate of .2% among 3,18,843 students comes up to 25% for the preliminary exam . Furthermore, out of 10,283 candidates appearing for the Main examination,1582 people are selected for the personality test(again a high success rate of about 15%). And finally out of 1582 appearing for personality test, 791 candidates(one out of two i.e a success rate of 50% ) were finally shortlisted for prestigious civil services!! The selection of best books will play a great role in deciding your rank. If you have a good collection of books then your preparation will be better. At the same time your hard work to finish the syllabus of optional subjects will play a great role in deciding your rank in the mains. In order to have expert level knowledge of General studies the recommended books are: General Studies Manual -McGraw Hill Publication Arihant Publication Upkar Publication UPSC Portal books Pratiyogita Darpan study material , Civil Services Chronicle, Competition wizard for articles on important issues. Believe you can and you will on the half way. Please do visit this website for your queries related to any entrance exam. Best of luck |

As you are in the first year of Graduation so currently you cannot apply for the IAS Exam or better say the Civil Services Exam. This is because you are not currently eligible for the IAS Exam. The IAS Exam is better known as the Civil Services Exam which is conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission. This Examination is considered as the most prestigious exam as it gives candidates the chance to join any of the below mentioned services : * Indian Administrative Services * Indian Police Services * Indian Economic Services * Indian Foreign Services The Civil Services Examination is one of the toughest examination due to its pretty long and hard selection procedure : 1) Preliminary Examination 2) MAINS Examination 3) Personal Interview It is said that an approx of 500 candidates get selected in the Civil Services Exam out of more than 10 lac candidates appeared in the exam. The Qualifications Required for Civil Services Exam are : ** The candidate must have completed graduation in any stream from any recognized college/university. ** The candidate does not need any specific % of marks. ** Candidates in the final year of graduation can also apply. ** The age of the candidate must lie in between 21-30 years for those belonging to Open Category. ** There is also a relaxation of 3 years given to OBC Candidates in upper age whereas SC/ST Candidates also get a relaxation of 5 years in upper age. ** The candidate must be an Indian Citizen. ** Number of Attempts : a) For General Candidates : 4 b) For OBC Candidates : 7 c) For SC/ST Candidates : No Limits This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query. Hope the information will help you to the extent you want. |
