Candidates holding a masters degree in Commerce are not considered eligible for the Indian Economic Service Examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission.

To be eligible for the Indian Economic Service Examination, one must hold masters degree in any of the following discipline:

• Economics
• Applied Economics
• Business Economics
• Econometrics

The age limit prescribed by the Union Public Service Commission for this examination is as follows:

• Minimum eligible age: 21 years
• Maximum age limit for candidates belonging to General Category: 30 years
• Maximum age limit for candidates belonging to OBC Category: 33 years
• Maximum age limit for candidates belonging to SC/ST: 35 years
