if you are in 4th year then you should start preparing with solved papers. Many publications provide these. G.K. publications, Made easy team, The gate academy are some of the most famous and referred publications for previous year old papers.

But if you think you have much time then you should start studying with the Standard books since old papers may only give some idea about the question. It is not necessary that questions will be repeated. And standard books will help you in clearing your basics which is very important in Gate.

Focus more on the mathematics and aptitude portion because these carry the highest weightage of 15% each. The remaining 70% will be from your other engineering subjects.

I am attaching a list of some very good books for you branch of electronics and communication engineering for you engineering subjects. This will help you in your basics a lot. These are considered the best standard books. Out of the list prefer Foreign writers over Indian writers. But if you have difficulty in understanding the foreign writer books then don't worry for almost every subject I have suggested an Indian writer books also.

GATE Exam Details:-

~Full form of GATE is Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. This exam is given by those candidates who wants to do post graduation in engineering. It is conducted by the seven IITs and Indian Institute of Science.

~If you wish to give this examination then you need a four years B.Tech degree. Even final year students can sit for this exam.

~On completing master's degree in science or mathematics or computer science or statistics you can sit for this exam. Final year students are eligible.

~If you are in the second or higher year of Four-year Integrated Master degree programme in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of a Five-year integrated master degree programme in Engineering/Technology then also you can sit for this exam.

~You will be given 65 questions to answer and total marks allotted is 100 marks. You need to finish the paper in three hours.

~This year's GATE exam took place in the month of February
