First of all go through the syllabus which am attaching here and then start your preparation.Planning is the most important thing to secure a good rank in GATE.

Since your from EEE try to refer standard books of Mathematics and your core subjects right from the first year.Start preparing from the fundamentals i.e Electrical Circuit Analysis(ECA).

For the Engineering Mathematics you can prefer

Higher Engineering Mathematics- Dr. B. S. Grewal.
Advanced Engineering Mathematics-Erwin Kreyszig.
GATE Engineering Mathematics-Kanodia.

For your CORE Subjects

Electrical Machines-J.B Gupta
Signal and Systems-Simon Haykin
Control System Engg-Nagrath and Gopal
Electric Circuits and Fields-N.C Jagan
Electrical and Electronic Measurements-A.K.Sawhney
Power Electronics-R.S.Bimbhra
Electrical and Electronic Measurements- R.P.Jain

Prepare a proper time table and the topics you need to cover in a day.Only proper planning will make you to go through with good marks.

The Best option for you is to work out previous year question papers. Books containing previous year questions are available on stores. You can also check out several journals and helpful links on the internet. Here you can find previous year question papers, demo tests etc. This site contains all information on gate and is really good for last minute revisions.

Dear friend,
TIPS to prepare for GATE exam is:
*Must do time management means give more time to important topics rather then less important topics.
*Must prepare short notes after reading any topic or chapter
*Must refer standard books.

For books details:

The GATE exam is understood very hard, but you can make it easy by the hardworking. you should solve all the question with your hands.

the GATE exam books you can refer are the following.

RS agarwal
bible
j p GUpta
BS grewal.
ssyman Haykin.

you must have the basic knowledge of all the subjects which you have read in your b.tech.

best of luck.

Tips for preparation -
1. Final year's students have to schedule their studies with their semester exams .
2. If you can prepare for at least 3 to 4 months seriously ,that will be enough to make a good score .
3. In the first run study all topics as per syllabus .
4. Try to prepare by text books for each subjects .
5. Revise all the important important topics .
6. Try to take up practice tests .

Books for GATe exam -

1.R.S.Agrwal
2.R.K.Rajput
3.Books of J.K.Publications

Thank you
