in many of the govt jobs engineering discipline which is required is ece,cse,e & I. can an IT engineer apply for such jobs?

No there are very less chances for the students of IT to apply for Government technical Jobs because of its oneness in many sectors.

The reasons may be like this it may be due to its single line i.e., IT hardware and some of the languages.

but due to its insufficient knowledge about Devices except those used in Computers Due to this reasons IT Students are not called for many Government jobs.

For IES IT students has chance to appear but with other domain that is they have to apply for M.Tech course in Electronics or Electricals or any other which are present

and they have to select that depending upon their Interest.

and some jobs are specially designed for IT students those will be Acknowledged through Notification in National Dailies.

This are all the opportunities in Government sector But one thing friend what if it is not a government job you can create anything if you wish to do in this Virtual world

If I'm in your place with you knowledge on all the Web designing Knowledge then I would create something which will be useful for others and also fill my pockets with lot of money.

IT is the stream which has endless opportunities. You have to explore them that's all

you will find Infinite.

yes you can apply for government job.
but the seats for IT engineer are very less.
so you have to do work hard.

There are many government sectors which offer jobs to engineer from CSE/MCS IT and ECE engineers. LIKE:

1. ECIL
2. BHEL
3. SAIL
4. ISRO
5. BSNL
6. RRB
7. BANK IT officer or IT Manager

Indian Administration Service
Indian Police Service
Bank PO's

Yes an IT engineer can also apply as well as they can also get a good job in the IT department. An IT student is also demanding in the field of education, technical departments, and telecom companies like BSNL etc.
