Hi I have simple passed in B.A. Can I prepare for Civil Service Exam.

Yes, as you have passed graduation, you can start with exam preparations for civil services. You need to prepare on topics like Indian history, geography, polity, social and economic development for clearing Paper I of prelims. Mental ability and English Language are the topics covered under Paper II of prelims exam. For clearing mains, you should prepare for English, general studies and chosen language. Reference books as well as previous year question papers can be used for study.

Civil services exams are conducted by UPSC every year and minimum qualification required to appear for this exam is Graduation from a recognized university.

So you are eligible for civil services exam.You can prepare for this exam and also you can apply for this exam after BA degree.


Civil Service Exam has three stages to be cleared by candidate:

Preliminary Exam

Main Exam

Personal Interview


To clear Civil Exam you need to clear the prelims and mains exams.
For prelims you need to clear CSAT which consists of aptitude and reasoning questions.
For CSAT you can prepare through RS Aggarwal books for Aptitude and Reasoning.
For mains you need to select 2 subjects of your choice from the given.
You should have complete knowledge of the current affairs that you can get from Pratiyogita Darpan magazine.

For current events you must thoroughly read The Hindu, Economic Times, Frontline and any other competitive magazines.

You must solve last 5 years question papers in your optionals not once or twice but as many times as possible.

Eligibility criteria for civil service exam-

The candidate must hold a degree of any of Universities.
candidate must be citizen of India.
Age should between 21-30 year.
A candidate can apply for civil service exam max. 4 times excepts SC/ST candidate.
