Can I pursue B.E through distance mode after passing Metallurgical Diploma Engineering?

I am an metallurgical Diploma Engineer. I am interested to do BE in distance mode. But I am confused. From which institute can I persue BE through distance mode & will that certificate be accepted by PSU or Limited organization ? If I do that from BIT, will it be accepted or not? Please reply as early as possible.
