Yes, a person who holds a degree of B. E. or B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering can write GATE exam in Computer Science and Engineering. But it will be extremely difficult for him to obtain a good score in GATE since he has not studied CSE syllabus. He will have to study CSE subjects as well.
A person can give GATE during the prefinal or final year of his engineering or after completing engineering. There is no age restriction. |

![]() I think you are not eligible to appear other branch examination. Eligibility Criteria :- The candidate should have a bachelor degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and the candidates who are appearing in the final year of examination can also apply for this examination. (Or) The candidate should have a Master degree in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Application or equivalent examination and candidates who are appearing in the final year of examination can also apply for this examination. (Or) The candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-Year Integrated Master's degree Program(Post - B.SC) in Engineering/Technology or in the third year of five years Integrated Master's degree Programme or Dual Degree program in Engineering/Technology. |

Why you want to Go for such step, Don't you want to Complete your PG in that field in which you have spent your 4 years of your precious Life. Few Points :- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology |

hello dear
no.Mechanical B.Tech holders can't write GATE computer science. see, computer science and mechanical both are different field of technology. these are the two different types of technology. so you are not abale to appear in the GATE with computer science. all the best.............. |

First of all you need to know that questions asked in GATE are based on core concepts of the subjects that you have read in your engineering. It will not be possible for a mechanical engineering student to get the concept of computer science upto that level required for GATE and same is true for a computer science engineer if he/she wats to give GATE in mechanical. Now a days you are required to provide some certificates and proofs with your GATE form for submission. Thus, there is no case to cheat them. A mechanical engineering students are not allowed to give GATE in any other stream. So, study your subjects well and give the exam sincerely with proper preparation. Best of luck! |

No you cannot write your GATE paper in any other stream. However there are some combinations which are allowed in the GATE exam. being a mechanical engineering student, you can give your GATE paper either in mechanical or in production and industrial engineering but you cannot give the exam from the computer science stream.
Gud luck |

yes a student of mechanical engineering can give the gate exam for computer science engineering. there is no restriction for doing that. but as you must be known to this that the gate exam is a very difficult exam and the syllabus for the exam is what you have studied in the four years of btech. since a mechanical engineer has studied nothing about computer in the btech, he will face many difficulties in preparing for the exam and also in giving the exam. so i will prefer you to give the exam for mechanical branch. rest is up to you. good luck |

So many stupid people giving their opinion but none of them having the caliber enough to state a clear answer or a source of reference. Why does everyone have to have an opinion on everything? Bruhh!

So many stupids giving their opinions on what someone else should or should not do. And no once having the common sense to just answer what is asked and write the source of reference. THAT IS IT. You do not need to tell someone if they invested their 4 precious years of life or whatever. Either speak that adds some value or don't. just don't.

So many stupids giving their opinions. And none having the caliber to state a clear cut precise answer to the question asked. Either speak something that adds value or keep your senseless thoughts to yourself. What is this behaviour to tell someone if they invested their 4 years in life somewhere and they should not switch or should switch? Bruh just speak for yourself and answer what is asked or do not.
