CDS stands for the Combined Defense Services. The entrance exam for this service is conducted twice every year by Union Public Service Commission.

It is conducted for the different academy mentioned below:

1. Indian military Academy:

>>Bachelor's degree from a recognized university.

>>Age limit is : 19-24 years.

2. Officer's training academy:

>>It also requires candidates having bachelor's degree from a recognized university in any discipline.

>>Age limit: 19-25 years.

3. For Naval academy:

>>Bachelor of science with physics and mathematics or Bachelor's degree in engineering.

>>Age limit is 19-22 years.

4. Air Force academy:

>>Bachelor's degree in Phyiscs or Mathematics or Bachelor's degree in engineering.

>>Age limit : 19-23 years.

Note: Final year candidates of all degree programme can apply for the exam.

GSES stands for the Graduate Special Entry scheme.

This scheme is mainly for Men and age limit is 19-22 years. Candidates having bachelor's degree in engineering or technology can apply for the exam.

For you as a graduate in physics, CDS will be more preferable as it will give you opportunity to join different academies mentioned above.

In GSES, you will join as technical officer if you clear the SSB. In CDS entry, you will recruited as officer in different wings of defense if you crack both written test and SSB.

CDS stands for the Combined Defense Services exam. GSES stands for the Graduate Special Entry scheme.

The main difference between CDS and GSES is that CDS is conducted by UPSC for the different academies like IMA, INA, AFA, OTA whereas GSES is only conducted for the Indian Navy.

You should prefer CDS as it will give you chance to get selected in different academies.
Do you have any question? or have anything to say?
