Hey please try to complete the question.

I can suggest which subject to take as optional if you meant which graduation course have you completed and in which stream.

If your a commerce student then its better that you take economics as a optional subject but if your from B.tech stream then its tough for you to compete with the candidates from commerce stream.

all the best

hi!

Every optional is safe if you are an expert. I mean to say that if you have knowledge of a particular subject then you can easily pass any exam in that subject. You should choose a subject as optional in mains on the basis of your interest & knowledge rather than on the basis of whether it is safe or not.

Suppose you select a subject which seems to be highly scoring but you have little idea about that subject then it will be difficult to pass in that subject. So my suggestion is that choose a subject in which you are.

Economis is one of the subject of the IAS exam and this subject totally based on the theoretical based.
so the things in that papers is solved by the learning.
so this is very safe subject for IAS exam.

Safe or unsafe , it all depends on how much you know about that subject and your interest in that.

If you are a commerce student then it would be beneficial for you , otherwise you may have to study a lot about this subject from initial stage.

Dont think that it is scoring or not, look at previous year toppers , they have took less choosen subjects still they were on top why because they have passion for that.
For example : Faesal took urdu literature which i think very less students opt for.
Electrical engg is considered low scoring subject, but last year second ranker took this subject and still topped.

I think , now you have got enough insight to take your subject.

your question is inappropriate,... no subject is safe for IAS

if there was any such subject everyone would choose that subject,
and actually all would fail due to very high compitition.

so my suggestion... stop choosing with others minds

use your own head and decide upon your liking which subject you can do
best in and which subject you have your interest in.

If you have studied economics a lot like didi your graduation it may be easiers for
you.

No, I will not suggest you to take economics as your subjects for the mains.
However, if you have studied economics in your +2 and have the aptitude, then there is no harm in taking economics.

I will suggest that you go for Political Science.
The subject is comparatively easy and im sure you can easily cope up with it.
Political science is the easiest subject of the list.
Also, if you wish, you can opt for mathematics.

The following is a list of the optional subjects which you can choose from:

Agriculture
Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science
Anthropology
Botany
Chemistry
Civil Engineering
Commerce and Accountancy
Economics
Electrical Engineering
Geography
Geology
History
Law
Management
Mathematics
Mechanical Engineering
Medical Science
Philosophy
Physics
P o l i t i c a l S c i e n c e a n d I n t e r n a t i o n a l
Relations
Psychology
Public Administration
Sociology
Statistics
Zoology

Thumbs down Re: Is Economics a safe optional for IAS mains?

this is absurd there has always been a Mains exam...nd that comprises of 2 optional subjects(4 papers):300x4=1200marks, general studies(2 papers)2x300=600marks, Essay(1)300marks= Total 2100 marks + 300 marks interview=2400marks (and English and one Indian language of qualifying nature)

If you are a commerce student, its definitely good you take ECONOMICS as an option for IAS mains because ECONOMICS is a subject which involves MICRO and MACRO aspects of economics and the economics as a whole which contains general aspects of the Indian economy with the World.

so many people choose economics as it is very interesting but some time choosing that subject which student choose rarely is safe.
choose care fully
as at least if we choose interesting subject we can read that but if we choose
uninteresting we cannot read it even if it is safe.

hello, i am doing graduation (B.A first year) with (economics ,statistics and mathematics) as my subjects.
i am confused whether to take economics as optional in IAS mains or not.......most people suggest me to go for geography as students from non-geography backgroud are scoring high in mains with geography as optional subject..........its true that one must select optional in which one has interest..........but still seeing the majority one gets such confusion......please suggest me if my selection of optionals with economics and public administration is appropriate?
