Re: Can I take Geography as economics as optional subject for IAS mains exam?
Quote:
Candidates from any stream are eligible to take these subjects for their optional papers. However, there are few combination of subjects which are not allowed in the Civil Service Main Exam but as far as Geography and Economics are concerned, there are no such issues. If you are opting for these subjects, make sure you have in-depth knowledge in both these subjects. For preparation, refer to the syllabus of each of these subjects and also refer to previous year question papers in order to assess the standard of question been asked in the Main Exam. |

Re: Can I take Geography as economics as optional subject for IAS mains exam?
Hi i’d seriously warn you against joining Neetu Singh mam for geography.. I joined her for Geography optional , but what i realized within a short period of her programme was that it was all a hoax.. I can give you convincing arguments to prove my point.. First of all, her concepts herself in geog are very weak , which you realize subsequently after a topic or two has been fiished with you.. The testimony to this fact is that she’ll never entertain your doubts either in class or outside.. In case you compel her to do so, u’d find her telling you nothing more than the vague explanations she had produced in the class.. secondly the notes that she gives us is only loaded with redundant sentences ,a tactic which she deliberately utilizes to make topic content bulky; with LITTLE significant FACTS or USEFUL INFORMATION.. You can verify that by browsing through her photocopy notes at any book shop at Rajinder Nagar ..
Thirdly , she’ll destroy your very interest in the subject by her very monotonous expressionless teaching , outrightly deficient in knowlegde that one seeks to achieve and inspires you to adopt the subject..You’d probably be enthused when you begin, with some of her lectures in geomorphology , by her peculiar accent she has put on artificially to teach, and dictating notes without having any material in her hand,, but then later you’d realize it has given virtually no results.. At the end of the course, you’d realize , you don’t know even the prominently figured locations anywher in the world, and your knowlede level no better than ordinary general studies student.. The only thing ,which according to me, drives gullible students like me to her is that she has been teaching for a long time , good over 10 years , for which she has some achievements to her credit, but then, its hardly enough a reason to waste your precious time there, where there is pure business, and ultimately arrive at a point in your pursuit ,where you develop a contempt for the subject as most of her students end up with.. Her general studies geography module is no different , where she charges seperately for every part covered , more in nature of another “ fake institute engaged in extracting money creating rosy picture in your minds.. Some people who are not from English academic background find her appealing ,because her usage of some patented words like “mobilization”,” favourable”, “pareto-optimality”, “ Avail”, “facilitates”, “reference” which find way in every sentence she makes, although uselessly, but infact ,her terrible inappropriately structured ,error ridden english ,rather, renders one’s english more deteriorated.. Infact , when I had a brief stint of exposure to SHABBIR Sir’s classes in GEOG at Vajiram , I was absolutely amazed with his style n methodology of teaching..I hadn’t even dreamt of that a teacher like him existed..His approach radically alters your entire attitude n orientation towards the subject ;His explanations of the concepts being mind- blowing and his material extensively helpful n informative.. the information you have at your disposal after his any class ,can never be expected at DIRECTION institute even after completing the whole course..His dictations are to-the-point , greatly updated and highly exam-oriented.. He wastes not a single moment in class and himself invites query for any further detailed clarification on any point made.. Moreover , he conducts classes for longer period, unlike DIRECTION, where mam would wind you off in a matter of months, after a big hole has been driven in your pocket.. To me GENERATIONS WUD TAKE TO HAVE A TEACHER LIKE SHABBIR SIR.. The only area where i’ll give her a point is her consistency, which in fact , by no means greater than Shabbir Sir.. I’m no proponent of VAJIRAM ,and to ratify it, I’d say that MODERN INDIAN HISTORY GS teacher at Vajiram Mr. Vikas Bharadwaj is the Worst one can imagine.. I cudn’t have any exposure to Mr Alok Ranjan or Mr K Siddharth ‘s teaching, so i cant tell you much about them.. PLZ FEEL FREE TO DIFFER FROM ME, n give your views..BUT I’D SUGGEST YOU TO GO FOR ATLEAST A CLASS WITH SHABBIR SIR BEFORE TURNING TO ANYONE ELSE FOR GEOGRAPHY.. TO THE EXTENT I KNOW, U CAN REQUEST ENGALOVAN SIR AT VAJIRAM FOR A FREE CLASS ,HE WUDN’T REFUSE.. gud luck! |
