Re: How to become an IAS officer?
On completing the graduation you can try for Civil Service Examination. However you age should be at least 21 years. As for now you are 18 years old, you must meet the minimum age limit in order to appear for IAS or IPS officer exam.
Firstly you should choose whether you are interested in Indian Administrative Service or Indian Police Service. The difference is that IPS officer is responsible for maintaining law and order while IAS officer has role of creating and implementing policy. You will finish the graduation course next year. Which would give you another couple of years before you will be eligible to apply for IAS/IPS. You should start by preparing for the exam. It is a very competitive exam where over 10 Lakh candidates appear. Unless you prepare hard for it, you can not pass the Civil Service Examination. Firstly you should know that either you can write exam in Hindi or English. If your native language is some regional language then improve your Hindi or English to appear for the exam. In any case you will have English as a paper in Main Exam. It is a qualifying exam and the score will not be added into final list, but still you will have to pass it. Therefore your English should be good. Work on your grammar etc. It is necessary. You will have to pick two optional subjects for the Main Exams. It is important to choose them wisely because there will be 4 papers on these subjects (2 paper each). You will also have to prepare for the General studies paper. There will be one paper on general studies in Preliminary and 2 papers in Main Exam. General Knowledge and Current Affairs is very important part of general studies. You should improve on that. Make sure you have not missed any major event recently. Eligibility The eligibility criteria for IAS/IPS is same. 1. A graduation degree in any stream. 2. Age limit for General is - 21 to 30 years. 3. OBC - 21 to 33 years 4. SC/ST - 21 to 35 years. |

Re: How to become an IAS officer?
Both the designations that you mentioned like
IAS officer IPS officer are the two top civil services in India. One should have to be ready to do so much of hard work towards cracking the selection procedure in order to be placed in civil services. If you are not good at academics or if you are a below average student, my sincere suggestion is not to opt for these civil services. I will suggest you to try for civil services only when you are good at academics and if you are ready to put your best efforts. The selection procedure that one should crack to be placed in above civil services is by CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) Civil Services Main Exam Interview Here is the eligibility criteria that is required for the candidates to apply for this exam. Academic Qualification : -One should have completed Graduation with any of the stream from a recognized university. -There is no percentage of marks criteria required for the candidates in order to apply for this exam. -Candidates who are pursuing final year of Graduation can also apply for this exam but they should be able to show the proof of passing in Graduation when they appear for Interview Age criteria : A candidate of General category should be in the age group of 21-30 years to apply for this exam. Relaxation in upper age limit upto 3 years for the candidates of OBC category. Relaxation in upper age limit upto 5 years for the candidates of SC or ST category. As you are pursuing final year of BA course, I suggest you to apply for this exam only when you have some preparation for this exam. Otherwise have good preparation for this exam and apply for civil services exam in next year. Don't try to attempt the exam without having preparation as there is limit on the number of attempts for candidates like Maximum of 4 attempts for the candidates of General category. Maximum of 7 attempts for the candidates of OBC category. No limit on number of attempts for the candidates of SC or ST category. Wish you all the best. |
