Enquiry about Number of attempts in UPSC Civil Service Exam


I have applied for Civil services examination once but I could not appear in the examination. Please tell me whether that would be counted as one attempt or the four attempts are still left with me.

hi,
if you have applied then it will be counted as four attempts and you have only three chances left out,
you should never do such mistakes with important exams like ias,
here every chance is precious and you have lost one without even attempting the exam.
if you are applying for the exam this year then make sure that you are completely prepared and give the exam,
the details of the exam is given with the notification attached,

As you said You have given the Civil Service Exam Only Once & You couldn't able to write the Exam now, if it is So, then i think you have exceeded the Age limits... Just check your Date of Birth with Age limits...

It would be counted as one attempt whether you appear in the exam or not.

As you did not attempt the exam it is not counted. So you have 4 attempts if your age is in between 21-30.

Number of Attempts in UPSC CIVIL SERVICES EXAM:
  • Four attempts for open,
  • seven for OBCs and
  • no limit for SCs/STs.
Please Note:If a person appears in the Preliminary Examination or even one paper is counted as an attempt.

If you have not appeared for any paper then it is not counted. An attempt is counted only if a candidate has appeared in at least one paper in CS (P) Examination.you can check in upsc FAQ section for further details.http://www.upsc.gov.in/general/faq.htm

Yes your 4 attempts are still left with you as you didnt appeared for the exam.


Before applying do keep in mind the points which i am listing below:-

I am listing the eligibility criteria required to appear for UPSC exam:
1) Candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on usually by August month.

2) Age Relaxation for OBC’s , SC and ST :-
OBC – 3 years , 5 Years – SC and ST.


3) Number of attempts:-
The maximum number of attempts permissible to different categories of aspirants, who are otherwise eligible, will be as follows:
General category -04
P.H. candidates belonging to general category -07
OBC -07
SC/ST/ -no limit.

Note:-

(i) An attempt at a Preliminary Examination shall be deemed to be an attempt at the Examination.

(ii) If a candidate actually appears in any one paper in the Preliminary Examination, he/she shall be deemed to have made an attempt at the Examination.

(iii) Notwithstanding the disqualification/cancellation of candidature, the fact of appearance of the candidate at the examination will count as an attempt.

Hello friend,
As per the UPSC's standard, candidates belonging to general category may appear for a maximum of 4 attempts and candidates belonging to OBC may appear for a maximum of 7 attempts. There is no restriction for the number of attempts for candidates belonging to SC/ST.

i> Educational Qualification
CANDIDATE MUST BE ATLEAST GRADUATE WITH ANY STREAM from a recognized university

ii>AGE LIMIT
AGE LIMIT IS 21 to 30 for general category candidate
For OBC it can be relaxed upto a maximum of years in upper limit
for SC/ST it can be relaxed upto a maximum of 5 years in upper limit

iii>
For general category number of attempts is only 4
For OBC category number of attempts can be 4+3=7
For SC/ST category there is no restriction.

No.Of Attempt for Civil Service Examination:-


For General candidates- only 4 attempt
For OBC-only 7, and
For SC/ST- there is No restrictions.

IFS Examination- General-4only ,
For OBC-7only and
For SC/ST-There is No restrictions.

All this provided still under the age limit and There is no restriction on number of attempts in any other Examination conducted by the Commission.
As far as your question is concern you have lost your one precious attempt according to the commission rule.

I have made a query about the no. of attempts left with me as I have once applied for it but could not appear in the prelims exams. I don't mean that I have given the examination for once. If you please tell me only application submitted to the UPSC will be counted as an attempt or after a person appears in the prelims examination is counted as one attempt.

for general category there are four attempts
for obc category seven attempts
for sc/ st category no limits
but the age limit should between 21 years to 30 years.

If You Have Applied For UPSC CSAT Examination And If You Could Not Appear In The Examination, Then Yes, You Have Lost Your One Chance And You Have Left Only 3 More Chance With You.

The candidate must possess a bachelor's degree from any recognized

university.Those in the final year of a degree course can also Eligible.

Number of Attempts :

4 attempts for general candidates.

7 attempts for OBC candidates.

There is no limit For SC/ST candidates.

for the SC/ST there is no limit for the attempts
for the OBC there are a max of 7 attempts
for the general there are about 4 attempts
but the age limit for the all the category is about 21 years to the 30 years ....

if u appeared in any single paper of the prelims it will be counted as an attempt. if however u did not turn up at the venue of the exam then u will not be considered as having appeared and all ur chances remain ie 4 attempts

for appearing in most of the exams conducted by upsc every years (IAS,IES,IPS etc etc), you must have to complete your gradution from a recognized college.
the age limit for this exams are 21-30. there are 5 & 3 years of relaxationare applicable for SC\ST candidates,. & OBC candidates respectIvely.

Dear friend,

The CIVIL SERVICE EXAM is conducted by UPSC in every year.

Those are graduate are applicable for civil service exam.

But your age should be between 21 to 30 years.

Age relaxation is provide 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidate.

NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS:

4 attempts for General category candidates
7 attempts for OBC category candidates
unlimited attempts for sc/st category candidates

There are no special number of attempts for female candidates. They are eligible for that number of attempts only as for the category they fall in, i.e, 4 for general, 7 for OBC, and unlimited for SC/ST.

Every candidate appearing at the examination who is otherwise eligible, shall be permitted four attempts at the examination.
Provided that this restriction on the number of attempts will not apply in the case of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates who are otherwise eligible.
Provided further that the number of attempts permissible to candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes, who are otherwise eligible shall be seven.
Provided further that a physically handicapped will get as many attempts as are available to other non-physically handicapped

i have applied for the examination of upsc(ias) which will be held on 20th may 2012,and now i want to apply for upsc(ifs) which will held on 4th july this year by Ministry of
Environment and Forests.
i want to know that if i appeared in both the exams,what is the no. of attempt counted as.is the no. of attempt will be one or two.

Civil service exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission .

NUMBER OF PERMISSIBLE ATTEMPTS:-

For open category 4 attempts are available
For O.B.C.(other backward class) 7 attempts are available.
Unlimited attempts for SC/ST are available.

ELIGIBILITY:-

-- You must be Indian citizen.
-- Age limit is 21-30 years. But for SC,ST, OBC upper age limit relaxation is there.
-- For SC/ST- 5 years of age relaxation.
-- For OBC- 3 years of age relaxation.
-- You must have completed your graduation from recognized university.
-- Final year candidates can also apply.
-- Only passing mark is enough to appear the exam.
-- You must be physically fit for the exam.

sir , i have filled ias preliminary exam form. but due to some reason failed to give the exam. sir,i wanted to know that whether it would be counted as attempt or i have still my 4 attempt left with me as i belong to general category?

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION:

Candidate should have minimum graduation degree with any discipline from a recognized university.

AGE CRITERIA:

For General category candidate,age should be between 21 to 30 years
For OBC category candidates age should be between 21 to 33 years
For SC/ST category candidates age should be between 21 to 35 years.

NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS:

4 attempts for General category candidates
7 attempts for OBC category candidates
Unlimited attempts for sc/st category candidates

As Information Given by you is Not so clear Enough with respect to Your age, You Cast but Don't worry i am Providing you a Brief about Eligibility, Qualification and No..of Attempts for Civil Service Exam.

Introduction:-


Civil Service Exam is conducted by upsc Government Every Year. Once a guy passed Prelims of Civil service he will be Eligible for Mains Exam.

This year Civil Serivice Exam is On 12th Of june 2011.
Eligibility :-


I) Age limits :

You must be 21 to 30 years of age as on 1st August 2011 for all the posts.But Upper Limit For SC/ST it has been Relaxed.

II) Educational Qualifications :

Any Degree From a recognized University or equivalent

III) No. of permissible attempts :

For General Category :-Four
For Other Backward Classes:- Seven
For SC/ST/PH :- Any Number Of attempts they can Made.



As you said You have given the Civil Service Exam Only Once & You couldn't able to write the Exam now, if it is So, then i think you have exceeded the Age limits... Just check your Date of Birth with Age limits...

OBC – 3 years , 5 Years – SC and ST. You Must Have A Bachelor Degree Of A Recognized University Or Equivalent..
Number of Attempts:
4 attempts for general candidates.
7 attempts for OBC candidates.
There is no limit For SC/ST candidates.
