Re: How to become an IAS officer? What should I do after my 12th board exam
It is nice to see that you want to serve the people by joining Indian Administrative Service (IAS). You will have to appear for the Civil Service Examination to become IAS officer. But before you could apply for that, you will have to complete graduation.
Since you have completed 12th, I would recommend that you pursue graduation course. You can pick any graduation course like: Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Commerce Bachelor of Science Bachelor of Computer Applications Bachelor of Technology Bachelor of Business Administration Above are some examples of the courses that you can pursue. You should start preparing for the IAS exam in the final year of graduation course. It is important to understand that over 10 Lakh students appear for the IAS exam every year but only couple of hundreds are selected. Therefore It is absolutely important that you start preparing in advance for the exam. You can start by watching news to keep the track of all the latest happenings in the world. You can also read political magazines, newspapers etc. This would help you prepare for General Studies paper that would be part of both Preliminary and Main Exams. Other thing you can do is improve your English language. If you are weak in speaking English and grammar then this is the time to improve. English is also important part of IAS exam. You should have good understanding of the English. For other subjects in General Studies please refer to the NCERT books of Class 12th for History, Geography, Economics etc. You will have to select 2 optional subjects in the Main Exam. It is recommended to select subjects that are related to your studies. Avoid selecting difficult subjects related to Engineering stream. IAS Eligibility 1. You must be citizen of India. 2. Age limit is 21 to 30 years. 3. There is 3 years relaxation for OBC. 4. SC/ST are eligible for 5 years relaxation in upper age limit for IAS. 5. A graduation degree in any stream from a recognized university. |
