Yes, engineering graduates can have rewarding jobs in PSU like IOCL and GAIL. Such candidates should have marks percentages not less than 60-70% and must have a valid GATE score. Qualifying IES enables you to join services like Indian Railway Services, Defense department and so on. Engineers can join as Specialist Officer in banks. Central/state departments also offer adequate job positions.

You should try for job in Public Sector Undertaking or appear for the Indian Engineering Service exam. Among these two I will first recommend you to appear for the Indian Engineering Service exam and only if you fail to clear it, go for the Public Sector Undertaking.

Indian Engineering Service

Only candidates who have completed B.Tech in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Electronics and Communications are eligible for the Indian Engineering Service exam. It is conducted on the annual basis.

The jobs are offered in various departments of the central government. Please remember that there are few hundred jobs but thousands of engineering graduates who apply for them. The jobs are very reputed therefore stiff competition should be expected.

Eligibility

1. The nationals of India are accepted for the IES exam.

2. You should hold a valid B.Tech degree.

3. Final year students are also eligible.

4. There is no percentage criteria.

5. Must be between 21 to 30 years to apply.

6. The relaxation as per government rules is 3 years for OBC.

7. Under government rules SC/ST are granted 5 years relaxation.

Public Sector Undertaking

The companies controlled by the government are called Public Sector Undertakings. There is requirement of Engineering graduates from various streams in PSU companies. Electronics and Communication is among the most preferred branches.

The procedure to apply is that you should first wait for the official notification from a company. Remember that each company will issue separate notification. After the notification is issued, follow the guidelines to apply for the entrance exam.

Please remember to check whether there are openings for Electronics and Communication Engineers or not. It is also necessary to appear for the General Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE).

The purpose is not admission for M.Tech. Various PSU companies do not conduct written test and instead ask for the GATE score of the candidate.

Eligibility

1. Valid B.Tech degree from recognized college.

2. You should have scored at least 60 percent marks.

3. You must clear all pending backlogs before applying for PSU.

4. A valid GATE score is also necessary for some PSU companies.

5. The age of the candidate should be 21 to 30 years.

6. Maximum of 3 years relaxation for OBC while 5 years for SC/ST.
