If you are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. part-time while working as an Assistant Professor in a government university, here are the steps you need to follow:

1. Identify the research area: First, you need to finalize the research area you want to pursue your Ph.D. in. This area should be aligned with your professional experience and personal interests. In your case, being an M.Phil. degree holder in economics, you may choose to continue your research in the same field.

2. Choose a guide:
After identifying the research area, you need to find a guide or mentor who can supervise your research work. You can reach out to your colleagues, professors, or researchers in your field to find a suitable guide.

3. Choose a university:
Once you have a guide, you need to choose a university that offers part-time Ph.D. programs in your chosen research area. You can search for universities that offer such programs online or seek advice from your peers and mentors.

4. Register for the program: After selecting the university, you need to register for the program by filling out the application form, paying the application fee, and submitting the necessary documents such as your M.Phil. degree certificate, research proposal, and recommendation letters.

5. Attend classes and workshops: As a part-time Ph.D. student, you may not be required to attend classes regularly, but it is recommended to attend workshops, seminars, and conferences to interact with fellow students and to keep yourself updated with the latest research in your field.

6. Conduct research: After completing the coursework and necessary exams, you need to focus on conducting research under the guidance of your mentor. You may have to balance your research work with your job responsibilities, but with proper planning, it is possible to achieve the desired outcome.

7. Submit the thesis: Once you have completed your research work, you need to submit your thesis to the university for evaluation. After successful completion of the evaluation process, you will be awarded a Ph.D. degree.

In conclusion, pursuing a part-time Ph.D. while working as an Assistant Professor in a government university requires discipline, dedication, and hard work. By aligning your research interests with your job responsibilities, you can effectively balance both and fulfill your academic ambitions.
