Re: How to improve communication skills and vocabulary and prepare for GATE exam?
You need to begin by reading a lot. After reading you must note down all the points. Write the matter in your own words. Get the same corrected by someone. Once you are comfortable writing you should try making presentations. For the GATE exam there are a lot of reference materials available in market.

Re: How to improve communication skills and vocabulary and prepare for GATE exam?
To improve vocabulary you can refer to a book called ''word power made easy'' by norman lewis. This book is well known and very good for improving vocabulary.
To improve your communication, you have to believe in yourself that you are already good in it,however there are always chances to improve. 1.Listening to others carefully what they are saying, is one way to improve. We often dont understand others because we lack listening skills. 2.Take a newspaper, read it infront of mirror like a news reporter. 3.If you come across new words, underline it and know the meaning, keep a dictionary handy. 4. try to use the words you learn while talking every day, keep a notebook of the words you learn. 5.watch news chennels. 6.Take an article from the newspaper, read it, then write it in your own words what did you understood. here are some tips to prepare for GATE; 1. first of all if you know some one who has already given gate or has experience in gate, then talk to them, they can give you valuable information regarding study materials and tips to study etc. 2. it is important that you have good quality study materials 3.collect previous year question papers for gate and solve it. 4. also take self test or solve sample test papers.you can easily find out what are lacking and which are you are strong. I have given some tips on improving vocabulary, communication, gate . I am sure there are many other ways to do it. |

Re: How to improve communication skills and vocabulary and prepare for GATE exam?
1. Improve pronunciation and diction
There are a few tricks to making a vernacular accent more globally understandable. ~ Try making sure that 'air' comes out of your mouth when saying the letters, 'T, P, K' and the sound 'Ch'. ~ Focus on elongating your vowel sounds. This will also automatically slow down your rate of speech. ~ Sing English songs out loud! ~ Watch news shows on channels like CNN and BBC. ~ The web site www.m-w.com is great for pronunciation help. ~ I would also suggest buying books on pronunciation and language that come with audio cassettes. ~ Pretend you are a newscaster and read out the newspaper to your mirror. ~ Do not read local newspapers. Focus on national newspapers. ~ While reading a book, underline all the words you do not know. Look them up in the dictionary. ~ Make a list of these words, and make sure you use at least five of them in a conversation during the day. ~ Most important, make an effort to speak in English to your friends and family. |
