may i know the number of nit seats available now in 2011 and upto what rank could a oc student expect seat in nit

There are almost 19,000 seats available in various engineering colleges through AIEEE.

As the top rankers get multiple options like IIT, AIEEE, state engineering, BITSAT

and other engineering entrance exams etc so many of the top rankers go for the better

available options.

Many fresher candidate drop one year to improve their rank in IIT, AIEEE etc.

In this way many candidate don't take admission through AIEEE.

This becomes the advantage for those who rank relatively low.

Therefore, roughly it can be said that one can easily get a seat upto

an all India rank of 30,000.

The 50% of all college seats is reserved in state quota and in that 50%, 27% seats are

reserved for OBC candidates of that state.

Similarly the rest 50% seats are for all India in which 27% seats are reserved for OBC of

all India candidate.

if your all india rank is upto 35000,i ti=hink you will definitely get a set as you definitely have a home state quota .

the candidates upto rank of 30000 can get the seat through the AIEEE counseling
and for the OBC candidates out of the 50% seats reserved they get the reservation of the 27% of the seats on that 50% of the seats both at the state and the national level ...

Every year the number of seats are fixed in any of NITs. The total number of seats are around 20000. So getting admission in NITs you must have to score in between 20000 all india rank.
For OBC category candidate there will be 5% relaxation. So if you will get 40000 rank then you also get the admission in any of NITs.
