Becoming an astranaut is very challegening job especially for person from India since the scope in very limited here. However ISRO has made huge leap in the space frontier, and plans to send man into space on regular basis, still the options are very limit ones.

Now here is your step by step guide to become Astronaut.

Before I begin let me tell you that you can not apply for pilot job of the space shuttle, because so far the requirement of NASA is that pilot should be US citizens. I know its not fair but what can we do, however you can apply for Mission Specialist. If you are interested in pilot job because you get to be called the commandar of the ship, well wait few years till ISRO starts to send its own space shuttle. Who knows by the time you finish the studies, ISRO might be sending humans in Space.

1. You have already passed 10th class, I hope you had Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are core subjects because this is the requirement of first step.

2. Step 2 for you would be to astronaut is completing Bachelor's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology or Aerospace Engineering.

3. If you gets good marks in Bachelor's degree, pass the GATE entrance exam and apply for Post Graduate course followed by PhD.

4. In order to be mission specialist you must have 3 years of related and progressively responsible professional experience which I am sure would not be a issue for you.

5. Appear in the entrance exam by NASA for the recruitment of Scientists and Astronauts.

If selected you will go through standard training that every astronaut receives by NASA. This includes Aircraft weightless training lessons, Shuttle Training Aircraft, The Shuttle Mission Simulator (SMS) for advance training and much more. If passed everthing with flying colors, you would soon be on your way to space in one of the space shuttles of NASA.
