Ya off course.

Maths is compulsary for Economics Honours, weather you study B.A. (Economics) or B.sc (Economics) or ealse.

You have to study topics like- Linier Algebra,Functions, calculus etc. which are topics of Mathematics.

You also have to study Statistics, topics like Probability,Index number etc. comes under it.

So,for studing Economics honours you have to study Maths or Stats. you cant run of it.

An economist must be very much strong in calculation so math is very much important for economics honors as the course contains statistics(the most important), algebra and some other subjects of maths.
but it doesn't mean that math is the only stream after which you can go for economics honors.
If you have done 12th with either of science(maths) or commerce you are eligible for economics honors.

actually mathematics is a way to measure the economic variable and its provide accuracy. for ex :satisfaction ,a term of economics, can be measured in term of 10 or 20 utils . second thing is that maths has become launguage to explain the long theory in presice form .if u are good in mathematcs ,no doubt u will be best in economics .it is same for economics as it is for physics . most imp things is that most of the economist was mathematician.for ex :j.m.keneys,samualson ,hicks
rahul singh ,pgt economics at annie basant school

You can opt for B.A. (Economics), and also would have study little Maths and large portion of Statistics there.

Even Delhi School of Economics, provide B.A. (Economics) in 1956.Even "Amartya Sen" has firstly persued B.A. (Economics) further rest of degrees.

So, nothing to worry just go for it, if you want to study that.

Best of Luck

I have done commerce with Informatics Practices in class 12. I didn't have maths as a subject. Now I'm planning to pursue Eco(H)
from DU. So are there any colleges who don't include MATHS in Eco(H)?

STEPHENS COLLEGE OF DELHI:- For Economics Honours 85-90 percentile in class 12.

SRI RAM COLLEGE OF COMMERCE DELHI:- For Economics Honours 85-90 percentile in class 12.

ST XAVIERS COLLEGE, KOLKATA :- For Economics Honours 70-75 percentile in class 12.

No, dear Economics without Maths is nothing more then a Story subject.

There is no such college/institute in India who does not include Maths in Economics (H). That's because Mathematics is compulsary for Economics Honours. Weather you persue BA or B.com or B.sc in Economics you have to study Mathematics.

Maths and economics are interwoven with each other, you cant separate them out. Actually this is one challenge colleges face when it comes to teaching economics students. Many students are quite apprehensive of mathematics. But it is just a matter of building confidence and logic skills. One reason is we start right with advanced mathematics, may be we need to start providing students with a refresher course in maths to understand basics better before going into the advanced ones. You can source inspiration from sites like http://www.bized.co.uk/learn/economics/maths/index.htm

my ISC boards marks are
physics 86,computer science 95,evs 92,english 83,with these %age is 89%....
but chemisry marks are 76 and maths are the worst...because of nervousness 66...so I wanted to ask whether I would face a lot of problems to get into a good college of delhi university for
B.A (ECONOMICS) honours....or should I pursue a career with B.SC(comp.sci) hons. with secondary subjects as maths and statistics...which would be better for me..I have interest in both of them...

Economic honors are taken with subjects like statistics.
You need to learn calculus, algebra & probability to gather the basics.
So, one can’t spare math’s

Yes you are eligible for it.

For Bachelor degree in economics, having Business Maths, Pure Maths, Economics, Economic Geography as one of the main subject in +2 is mandatory.

And you have Econmics and also scored well in it, so no problem. You can also try for Delhi School of Economics.

Yes you are eligible. But score in only economics doesn't matter in delhi university. They consider your best 4 subjects aggregate percentage and these 4 subjects don't include computer or physical education.Cut-offs of top colleges are very high.I guess you can do post-graduation from D-school and not graduation.Gud Luck!
