But i can give you the basic salary, long ago it was 8000-16000(APPRX.) starting basic pay. Now after 6th pay commission its 15600-39,600. And after adding all allowances expect something not less than 30,000. And after promotion the Basic pay rises accordingly. Best of luck. Feel free to ask if doubts remain. |

IAS itself is a big platform where you guys can show what you really are.let me tell u something.. Every year nearly 4lakh forms r submitted and only a lakh gives the exam from where 900 approx. Are taken for the job.. It is the toughest exam, consisting of 9papers,each of 300 (logical reasoning of 200.).in the main exam. The minimum qualification to sit for the exam is graduate. From any stream, but from a recognised university. Doctors, Engineers, even highly ranked gazetted officers would be your competitor. So prepare well. Regards |

Salary for IAS officer in India
(i) Senior Time Scale Pay Band: Rs 15600-39100 Grade Pay Rs 6600 An IAS Officer is promoted to the Senior Time Scale usually after 7-9 years of service. (ii) Junior Administrative Grade Pay Band: Rs 15600-39100 Grade Pay Rs 7600 At this level you're generally a Deputy Secretary in the State Secretariat or the Municipal Commissioner in the field.* (iii) Selection Grade Pay Band: Rs 37400-67000 Grade Pay Rs 8700 As a Selection Grade IAS Officer you will be the Joint Secretary in the State Government or a Deputy Secretary in the Central Government. As the Joint Secretary you might be given independent charge of some Wing in a Department. Super Time Scale Pay Band: Rs 37400-67000 Grade Pay Rs 10000 The Super Time Scale is one of awe and power. At this level of the IAS hierarchy you will most probably be the Secretary of some state government department or you could be posted at the Centre in the position of Joint Secretary. For reference sake, it takes about 20 years to reach the Super Time Scale and become eligible for the above IAS salary. Above Super Time Scale There are three Pay Bands in this scale. Rs 37400-67000. Grade Pay of Rs 12000. The Apex Pay Scale of Rs 80000 (fixed). No Grade Pay. Cabinet Secretary Grade of Rs 90000 (fixed). No Grade Pay. Not all IAS officers are fortunate enough to enjoy this Pay Scale. The IAS officers in the Super Time Scale include Senior Secretaries, Chief Secretaries, Secretaries in the Central Government and the Cabinet Secretary, the highest position an IAS officer can aspire for in life. |

Re: Salary of an IAS officer in India?
A fresh IAS would fetch around 35,000 and senior most rank around 1,00,000. A large chunk of the salary is taken back by the government as income tax. But you enjoy status, security and allownces.
Most painful aspect of being an IAS is to be posted assistant to some foolish politician and that you can't avoid. |
