You can choose commerce subject as an optional paper because you are from commerce background.

The minimum educational qualification required for IAS exam is graduation degree from a recognized University. Your age should be in between 21 to 32 years.

As a commerce student you can choose one of these subjects for IAS main exam :
1. Commerce and Accountancy
2. Management
3. Economics
4. Mathematics

You can choose any of the optional subject. There is no any restriction in subject selection. If you are from Commerce stream then also you can choose any other subjects also.
Some of the optional subjects are as under:-

History

Political Science

Geography

Maths

Physics

Agriculture Studies

Finance

Accounts

Hindi

English

Economics

There are two subjects for Commerce student:

1. Commerce and accountancy

2. Economics

These subject are related to your stream.

Choose one you are interested in or there are many other options waiting for you.

Use internet and see previous year question papers, guidance available and make a wise decision

If you are a Commerce student, then you should choose those subjects which are relevant to your stream.

Also, you can choose those subjects in which you have your keen interest.

There are three stages of Civil Services examination:

1. Preliminary examination.

2. Mains Examination.

3. Interview.

The best optional subjects for Commerce stream candidates are "Economics or Commerce and Accountancy. You can select either of them according to your interest. There are two papers of one optional subject of 250 marks each.
